Solidarity with Venezuela

Solidarity with the Venezuelan People: Statement for life, peace, and democracy in Venezuela

The undersigned health organizations strongly reject the United States' military aggression against the homeland of liberator Simón Bolívar, which violates Venezuela's national sovereignty and the self-determination of its people. The aggression of President Donald Trump's administration aims to appropriate the country's oil, land, and other abundant energy resources, turn Venezuela into a neocolony, and maintain colonial and imperial domination in the region, further stifling any possibility of national liberation and the autonomous construction of progressive social, political, and economic processes that dignify the lives of our peoples; and to strengthen the hegemonic position of the United States in its dispute with China in the region.

This military aggression violates the basic principles of international law, is a direct threat to the stability, peace, and national sovereignty of countries in the region that do not agree with U.S. policies and interests, and is a flagrant violation of the sacred right to self-determination of the peoples of our community of nations. We categorically reject the injury, kidnapping, or death of any Venezuelan citizen and demand respect for the lives and immediate freedom of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

We express our rejection and condemnation of the interventionist military actions of the United States in Venezuela, and we call on the international community and organizations to strongly reject this invasion, which violates all established agreements that seek to guarantee dialogue and peace among nations, Similarly, we call on other Latin American countries to speak out in defense of the region's sovereignty and its history of struggle for peace and freedom for its peoples.

We are confident that the people of Venezuela will resist imperial military intervention and defeat it once again, as they have done throughout their history since 1811, when they victoriously confronted the Spanish colonial empire and contributed with their blood and leadership to the liberation of several republics in the region.

We call on social movements, workers' organizations in general, health workers in particular, women, youth, and students to reject imperialist aggression, stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, and defend the sacred right of the peoples of our region to live in peace, independence, and sovereignty.

The struggle against imperialist military aggression, the occupation of our territories, and the defense of our sovereignty and self-determination is a struggle for health.
