Onboard the Global Sumud Flotilla

Health activists reporting from the Global Sumud Flotilla approaching Gaza

Aziz Rhali, Moroccan health activist, member of the People's Health Movement, president of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, and coordinator of the Coalition for Health in Morocco, reports from aboard a ship that is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla approaching Gaza on a humanitarian mission.

“We chose the name Der Yasin for our ship because Der Yasin was the first genocide committed by the Haganah, the Israelis, against the Palestinians in 1948.

So this choice was made simply to highlight all the crimes committed by the Zionists against the Palestinians from 1947 to the present day, and what is happening in Gaza is just a continuation of the many genocides that have been committed against the Palestinians. For us, the Yassin ship is in good shape and morale is high. Everyone is fully convinced of the mission we are on, and we are now three days away from arriving in Gaza.

The difficulties are difficulties that we had already anticipated, for example the presence of We are a close-knit team. I am with another doctor, Dr. Habib Hamdan, a surgeon from Algeria. We take care of everything concerning the others, each of us has a specific task to perform. There are other difficulties, such as the challenges of the sea, because quite a few of the participants are setting sail for the first time. So, they are trying to adapt to these conditions.

Similarly, there are some difficulties with daily living conditions. For example, the boat we are on, Yacine's boat, is a boat for 12 or 13 people, but there are 27 of us. However, none of this detracts from the participants' motivation and commitment.

For us in the PHM, now as the PHM, it's just a continuation of our work, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone for the work that has been done in Australia and to show that each of us in the PHM is trying to do what we can for the Palestinian cause. So that's all for this morning, and see you in the next video.

I salute everyone and I salute the PHM's commitment to helping our Palestinian friends and comrades. It was also an opportunity to mention that yesterday, the day before yesterday, the PMRS headquarters in Gaza was bombed. It was a headquarters where we planned to store the medicines we carry on our boats, but unfortunately the Israelis bombed it.”
