Fifth People’s Health Assembly, Mar del Plata, Argentina, 2024
Health rights activists, human rights activists, ethnic people’s rights activists, health workers, health rights organizations, PHM’s affiliated networks, partners and organizations members, health policy makers, academics, PHM Members and individuals came to participate in the 5th People’s Health Assembly (PHA5) of the People’s Health Movement (PHM) held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from 7-11 April 2024.
The PHA is an important part of the PHM, as it provides a unique space for sharing experiences, mutual learning and the development of joint strategies for action. It is held approximately every five years. It attracts progressive social movements, civil society organizations and networks, academics, health activists, health workers and students from around the world. Previous Assemblies were held in Savar, Bangladesh (2000), Cuenca, Ecuador (2005), Cape Town, South Africa (2013), Savar, Bangladesh (2018) and now Mar del Plata, Argentina (2024). This time with the particiopation of over 600 activists from 62 countries.

Latin America Gears Up for the 5th People's Health Assembly
On Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 13h UTC / 10h ARG / 8h COL / 7h GT in the framework of the closing of the 33rd National and Latin American Health Meeting - Laicrimpo: "We are the dream, the ancestral echo, the mother earth that we embrace", Trenque Lauquen, Buenos Aires, Argentina, the launching event for Latin America of the 5th People's Health Assembly (PHA5), Mar del Plata 2024, will take place.
History of the PHA5
The first PHA took place in 2000 in Bangladesh Savar, was preceded by months of global mobilisation and resulted in the People’s Charter for Health (PCH) and start of the People;s Health Movement. The PCH is the PHM founding document and still relevant today, 23 years after its conception.
The 5th People's Health Assembly in Mar del Plata is underway!
With great excitement Argentina is preparing for the 5th People's Health World Assembly. About 20 representatives of organizations, institutions and social movements from various Argentine provinces met to advance in the organization of the PHA5 to be held in Mar del Plata from April 7 to 11, 2024. In this meeting the participants sealed their political, mobilization and logistic commitment in the planning of the 5th Assembly.

The International Organizing Committee (IOC) of the Fifth People’s Health Assembly (PHA5) was called for two successive meetings on Saturday, August 12 and Friday, August 18, 2023, to look at two expressions of interest to host PHA5. These were received from the PHM circles in Morocco and Argentina.
