Fifth People’s Health Assembly, Mar del Plata, Argentina, 2024


Health rights activists, human rights activists, ethnic people’s rights activists, health workers, health rights organizations, PHM’s affiliated networks, partners and organizations members, health policy makers, academics, PHM Members and individuals came to participate in the 5th People’s Health Assembly (PHA5) of the People’s Health Movement (PHM) held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from 7-11 April 2024.

The PHA is an important part of the PHM, as it provides a unique space for sharing experiences, mutual learning and the development of joint strategies for action. It is held approximately every five years. It attracts progressive social movements, civil society organizations and networks, academics, health activists, health workers and students from around the world. Previous Assemblies were held in Savar, Bangladesh (2000), Cuenca, Ecuador (2005), Cape Town, South Africa (2013), Savar, Bangladesh (2018) and now Mar del Plata, Argentina (2024). This time with the particiopation of over 600 activists from 62 countries.

The program has been created through a process of several consultations with the movement. Regions and thematic areas could provide suggestions for topics and speakers. The program is built around 5 thematic axes (see below), and has ample space for self organised activities in the afternoons and evenings.
