Detained activists from the Global Sumud flotilla resist Israeli pressure and begin a mass hunger strike reports say

Reports by Human Rights NGOs circulating in the media and platforms indicate that activists began a mass hunger strike, refusing to bow to Israeli pressure to sign documents acknowledging immigration offenses. Israeli courts hold hearings for those illegally detained, denying them their right to legal assistance, to contact their diplomatic representatives, their families or providing information of their detention.

Israel carried out the first deportations with the departure of four Italian parliamentarians who are now back home. In extreme vulnerability are abducted activists from the global south due to the weakness of their diplomatic efforts and, in some cases, such as that of the Colombians, as diplomatic relations between the two countries are severed.

Aziz Rhali, Health Rights Activist and PHM member, held against his will by Israel, is in his 3rd day of hunger strike and still there is no information of his whereabouts and safety. The PHM demands information on Aziz Rhali’s whereabouts, his health status, and his unconditional, immediate release. We urge the United Nations and all states to secure the release of Aziz Rhalli and the other abducted comrades and to guarantee their safety. We also call on social‑health activists, organisations, and solidarity movements worldwide to act.

A statement from Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel -: “said on Friday that Global Sumud Flotilla participants were forced to kneel with their hands zip-tied for at least five hours, denouncing the treatment as part of Israel’s unlawful detention practices following the flotilla’s interception in international waters.” Reported the Turkish News Agency Anadolu.

Released by Adalah, the statement “confirmed its attorneys met with the detainees over the past 24 hours, though some were processed without legal consultation after Israeli police initially blocked lawyer access. Hearings before Israeli immigration authorities are now underway.” Added the Anadolu Report. As it was reported by the Human Rights Organization, several abdicates were denied their right to legal counsel during the hearings conducted by the Israeli immigration authorities at Ashdod Port.

Israeli authorities began holding deportation and detention hearings as of Thursday without notifying the detainees in advance or allowing them to communicate with their lawyers — a practice that constitutes a violation of their basic legal rights.

According to Y Net News “Turkey will fly home 140 of its citizens along with Malaysians and Indonesians from the Gaza flotilla. Arab nationals will cross into Jordan, while Europe-bound activists await relocation.
The Global Sumud Flotilla legal team, in relation to German citizens, reported on Instagram that German Nationals are denied basic legal rights included in the “The Vienna Convention on Consular Relations guarantees the right to contact with their embassy and obliges German authorities to intervene, to visit them, and to ensure their safety.” and yet these rights have been denied and the German Government is failing to fulfill its responsibilities to protect and support its Nationals.

Activists who refused to sign deportation orders were transferred to Ketziot Detention Center for legal processing before forced deportation, while Israel decided to seize the ships through legal procedures instead of sinking them.

The People's Health Movement calls on Israel to preserve the health and lives of activists on hunger strike and on the United Nations and the states of the world to monitor and demand the immediate release of all those abducted by Israel.
