Online course from the International People's Health University for young health activists in Latin America

The Latin American coordination of the People's Health Movement is pleased to open the call for applications for its 2nd online International People's Health University Course, a training program for health activists. After the successful course held last year, we are repeating the course this year with a modified format. The International Peoples' Health University (IPHU) is a global programme of PHM which aims to contribute to "health for all" by strengthening people's health movements around the world, organizing and resourcing learning, and sharing and planning opportunities for action by people's health activists, particularly from countries in the Global South.

The course will take place from 18 March 2026 to 18 July 2026 every 2 weeks on a Wednesday. The course has been designed and implemented by a committee comprising PHM members from the region. The course will be delivered online over Zoom in Spanish and Portuguese, and there is no registration fee. Certificates will be awarded to applicants who attend all 9 sessions.

Overall Goal: To train health activists in the principles and struggles of the People's Health Movement (PHM), exploring the intersections of health, gender, race, class, social, environmental and economic justice. Sessions are designed to foster learning, experience sharing and strategic planning. You will also have the opportunity to be involved with the People's Health Movement, country and regional circles

Program Structure:
Format: blended (Content capsules, pre-readings, group discussions, workshops, and follow-up studies).
Frequency: Main session every 2 weeks on Wednesdays
Session dates- 18 March (orientation session), 25 March, 8 April, 22 April, 6 May, 20 May, 3 June, 17 June, 1 July, 8 July (Closing session)
Time: 2 hours (6 pm Colombia, 8 pm Brazil, 5 pm Guatemala -11 pm UTC)
The course will be held in Spanish and Portuguese.

The 8 sessions will deal with the following topics:
Session 1: Introduction to the People's Health Movement (PHM).
Session 2: Critical Analysis of International Health Governance
Session 3: Civilizational Crisis and Health (Ecosystem Health: Food, Energy, Climate)
Session 4: Diverse Knowledge: Indigenous, Ancestral, Afro-descendant,
Decolonial, Anti-imperialist and Anti-capitalist:
Session 5: Gender Justice.
Session 6: A World Free of Corporate Control
Session 7: Sovereignty of Peace
Session 8: Transformation of Health Systems

Application Process and Eligibility:
The course is open to health activists living or working in Latin America, speaking Portuguese or Spanish. You need to have a good internet connection and should be available on the course dates on Wednesdays from 18 March 2026 to18 July 2026. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
