The People's Health Movement condemns the resurgence of imperialism in Cuba

Cuba is not alone!

We, the People’s Health Movement, raise our voices in protest against the intensification of the systematic siege that U.S. imperialism continues to impose on the people of Cuba. The economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed more than six decades ago—and which has intensified over the past year—has included new coercive measures, such as the energy blockade and the persecution of third countries attempting to supply fuel to the island. This escalation constitutes a prolonged policy of economic warfare aimed at undermining the sovereignty of a country that chose to build a social project independent of the interests of transnational capital.

Today, Cuba faces one of the most critical junctures of recent decades: prolonged nationwide blackouts, a partial collapse of the energy system, shortages of food and medicine, and a rapid deterioration in the living conditions of the population. This situation cannot be understood apart from the deliberate policy of economic suffocation driven by the U.S. imperialist regime, which has restricted access to fuel, limited financial transactions, and tightened the international blockade on the island.

We denounce these policies as a contemporary form of economic warfare, which is not merely about sanctions: it is a systematic strategy aimed at provoking the material collapse of daily life, generating social discontent, and forcing regime change. In this sense, the Cuban case clearly illustrates the imperial logic of global discipline: any political project that seeks to maintain a degree of sovereignty in the face of transnational capital is subjected to mechanisms of economic coercion, isolation, and destabilization.

In the face of this siege, the Cuban people have demonstrated an extraordinary capacity for historical resistance. Despite the economic blockade and constant political aggression, Cuba has sustained a social project that places human dignity, cooperation among peoples, and international solidarity at the center of its actions. For decades, Cuban professionals have worked in dozens of countries supporting health, education, and social development initiatives in historically marginalized communities. This concrete internationalism represents a real alternative to a world order where cooperation is often subordinated to geopolitical, military, or corporate interests.

The Movement for People’s Health, committed to the struggle against imperialism and to the defense and rights of peoples, affirms that Cuba’s cause is also the cause of those who resist plunder, war, and domination in every region of the world. We denounce that what was once one of the best healthcare systems in the world in Cuba is now crumbling before everyone’s eyes.

We denounce the blockade as an unjust and illegitimate policy that must end immediately, and we call on social movements, grassroots organizations, unions, and democratic forces to strengthen international solidarity with Cuba. To defend Cuba today is to defend the right of peoples to determine their own destiny and to build societies based on social justice, sovereignty, and a dignified life.
