Welcome to the new edition of PHM Exchange- a newsletter from the People's Health Movement. PHM exchange is sent to our activists and colleagues who have joined us over the last 25 years!! We bring to you news from our PHM country circles and networks from around the world.

On 28 July, a launch of PHM's flagship publication Global Health Watch 7 was conducted by the People's Health Movement (PHM) Sri Lanka. The event introduced the latest edition of the Global Health Watch, titled "Mobilizing for Health Justice," which presents a critical analysis of the current global health landscape and promotes health as a fundamental human right. The speakers highlighted key themes such as health equity, universal health coverage, the commercial determinants of health, climate change, conflict, and the importance of strengthening public health systems through community participation and social justice.

PHM Sri Lanka members also presented a copy of the book to Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, General Secretary of the ruling party in Sri Lanka and Member of Parliament. In the photo can be seen other PHM Sri Lanka members Menu De Silva, Dr Vinya Ariyaratne, Manuj Weerasinghe, Sirimal Peiris and Nishantha Preethiraj.

Preparations are underway for PHM South and East Africa's landmark Week of Climate and Health Action in Malawi. The programme includes a regional International People's Health University (IPHU), bringing together health and climate activists from across the region to strengthen analysis and strategies on climate change, health emergencies, financing, and resilient health systems. The programme will also include celebrations marking 25 years of PHM in Southern and Eastern Africa and the regional launch of Global Health Watch 7.

PHM Australia raised  A$4600.00 for PHM South and East Africa to support the planned IPHU and Regional Assembly. This fundraising was part of the beautiful  memorial held in Melbourne on 5 July 2026 for our departed comrade David Legge.

PHM Europe held a meeting last month. The meeting focused on PHM Europe's anti-imperialism work, including the Alliance of Health Workers against Militarisation and the European campaign supporting the boycott of the Israeli Medical Association (IMA). Participants reviewed preparations for the PHM Europe General Assembly 2026 and planned for 2027, including the IPHU. A call was made for support to strengthen PHM Europe's social media and communications.

Additionally, PHM Europe is participating in ManiFiesta 2026 in Belgium, a unique festival where social movements, trade unions, health professionals, academics, artists, and activists come together to celebrate solidarity and build alternatives for a more just future. This year, PHM Europe hopes to gather a strong delegation. You can find programme and registration details here.  Among others, there will be a health programme at ManiFiesta, co-organised together with our PHM members Viva Salud and Medicine for the People. PHM East and Asia Pacific region discussed planned campaigns on anti-privatisation and anti-war and plans to mobilising against the upcoming IMF-World Bank Meeting scheduled for October 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. Discussions also focused on strengthening support for country circles and plans to reactivate inactive ones, such as South Korea. On 8 July 2026, we concluded the four-month-long 2nd Latin American & Caribbean IPHU/UISP course. We closed with a mystical ceremony, reaffirming our commitment to continue working together. The course brought together participants from over 15 countries in the region.

"We want to dedicate these words to you—not as an evaluation, but as a deep expression of gratitude.

1. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and that of your communities. When you told us what resonated with you while watching the videos, you opened a window into your inner world. We saw how you connected what you heard with what you live, with what you fight for, with what you love. You gave us phrases that are already seeds for all of us: "we are territory-body," "we must defend the territory because it is directly our health."
2. Thank you for your honesty and your critical gaze. When you expressed your disagreements, your dissidence, you showed us that the dialogue of knowledges is real, that there is no dogma, that Dignified Rage also means thinking for oneself. You reminded us that not romanticizing Indigenous peoples is also a form of respect, and that we need a firm ethic that defends life without falling into comfortable relativisms. 
3. Thank you for the exercise of memory in naming the peoples who inhabited and inhabit your territories. To name is to resist. It is to rescue from oblivion those whom official history has tried to erase. By listing the Indigenous peoples of your lands—the Mapuche, the Kawésqar, the Nahuas, the Tsotsiles, the Chorotegas, the Kaqchikel Maya—you performed an act of justice. You keep memory alive.
4. Above all, thank you for going to meet a person who carries knowledge. You did the most valuable thing: you listened. You took the time to converse with a grandmother, a midwife, a benzedeira, a potter, a naturist farmer, a Kawésqar woman. And in doing so, you became a bridge. You brought to our table voices we would not otherwise have heard. It is those voices— Doña Prospera's, María Luisa's, Blanca's, María Benta's, Miguel Ángel's—that teach us what Buen Vivir is and how Life is defended.
5. Thank you for trusting this space. We know it is not easy. That time is pressing, that connectivity fails, that life is heavy. And yet, you were there. You did the tasks, you shared your reflections, you opened yourselves to a dialogue that is, above all, an act of care. This course exists because you make it possible.

You are living proof that the Emergence of Life is not an abstract theory. You are the evidence that, in the midst of the storm and the abyss, there are those who choose to care, to remember, to fight,
and to pass on. You are not alone. We are a tapestry. And every thread you contribute—with your work, your memory, your Dignified Rage, and your stubborn hope—strengthens the weave.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

El 28 de julio, el MSP de Sri Lanka llevó a cabo la presentación de nuestra publicación insignia, «Global Health Watch 7». El evento sirvió para dar a conocer la última edición de «Global Health Watch», titulada «Movilización por la justicia en salud» que presenta un análisis crítico del panorama actual de la salud mundial y promueve la salud como un derecho humano fundamental. Los ponentes destacaron temas clave como la equidad en salud, la cobertura universal de salud, las determinantes comerciales de la salud, el cambio climático, los conflictos y la importancia de fortalecer los sistemas de salud pública a través de la participación comunitaria y la justicia social.

Los miembros del MSP Sri Lanka también entregaron un ejemplar del libro al Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, secretario general del partido gobernante en Sri Lanka y miembro del Parlamento. Ya están en marcha los preparativos para la histórica Semana de Acción Climática y de Salud de PHM África del Sur y del Este en Malawi. El programa incluye una Universidad Internacional de la Salud del Pueblo (IPHU) regional, que reunirá a activistas de la salud y del clima de toda la región para fortalecer el análisis y las estrategias sobre el cambio climático, las emergencias de salud y el financiamiento y los sistemas de salud resilientes. El programa también incluirá celebraciones que conmemoran los 25 años de PHM en África del Sur y del Este, así como el lanzamiento regional de Global Health Watch 7.

PHM Australia recaudó 4600,00 dólares australianos para PHM África del Sur y del Este con el fin de apoyar la IPHU y la Asamblea Regional previstas. Esta recaudación de fondos formó parte del hermoso homenaje celebrado en Melbourne el 5 de julio de 2026 en memoria de nuestro compañero fallecido, David Legge.

PHM Europa celebró una reunión el mes pasado. La reunión se centró en el trabajo antiimperialista de PHM Europa, incluyendo la Alianza de Trabajadores de la Salud contra la Militarización y la campaña europea en apoyo al boicot contra la Asociación Médica Israelí (IMA). Los participantes revisaron los preparativos para la Asamblea General de PHM Europa de 2026 y planificaron los eventos para 2027, incluyendo una IPHU. Se hizo un llamado para apoyar el fortalecimiento de las redes sociales y las comunicaciones de PHM Europa.

Además, PHM Europa participará en 'ManiFiesta 2026' en Bélgica, un festival único donde movimientos sociales, sindicatos, profesionales de la salud, académicos, artistas y activistas se reúnen para celebrar la solidaridad y construir alternativas para un futuro más justo. Este año, PHM Europa espera reunir una delegación numerosa. Pueden encontrar el programa y los detalles de inscripción aquí. La región de PHM de Asia del Este y Pacífico discutió las campañas planeadas contra la privatización y la guerra, así como los planes para movilizarse contra la próxima reunión del FMI y el Banco Mundial programada para octubre de 2026 en Bangkok, Tailandia. Las discusiones también se centraron en fortalecer el apoyo a los círculos nacionales y en los planes para reactivar aquellos inactivos, como el de Corea del Sur. El 8 de julio de 2026, concluimos el 2.º curso de la IPHU/UISP para América Latina y el Caribe, de cuatro meses de duración. Cerramos con una ceremonia mística, reafirmando nuestro compromiso de seguir trabajando juntos. El curso reunió a participantes de más de 15 países de la región.

«Queremos dedicarles estas palabras, no como una evaluación, sino como una profunda expresión de gratitud.

1. Gracias por compartir su sabiduría y la de sus comunidades. Cuando nos contaron qué les resonó al ver los videos, abrieron una ventana a su mundo interior. Vimos cómo conectaron lo que escucharon con lo que viven, con aquello por lo que luchan, con lo que aman. Nos regalaron frases que ya son semillas para todos nosotros: «somos territorio-cuerpo», «debemos defender el territorio porque es directamente nuestra salud».
2. Gracias por su honestidad y su mirada crítica. Cuando expresaron sus desacuerdos, su disidencia, nos demostraron que el diálogo de los saberes es real, que no hay dogmas, que la «Ira Digna» también significa pensar por uno mismo. Nos recordaron que no idealizar a los pueblos indígenas es también una forma de respeto, y que necesitamos una ética firme que defienda la vida sin caer en relativismos cómodos.
3. Gracias por el ejercicio de la memoria al nombrar a los pueblos que habitaron y habitan sus territorios. Nombrar es resistir. Es rescatar del olvido a quienes la historia oficial ha tratado de borrar. Al enumerar a los pueblos indígenas de sus tierras —los mapuches, los kawésqar, los nahuas, los tsotsiles, los chorotegas, los mayas kaqchikel— realizaron un acto de justicia. Mantienen viva la memoria.
4. Sobre todo, gracias por ir al encuentro de una persona portadora de conocimiento. Hiciste lo más valioso: escuchaste. Te tomaste el tiempo para conversar con una abuela, una partera, una benzedeira, una alfarera, una agricultora naturista, una mujer kawésqar. Y al hacerlo, te convertiste en un puente. Trajiste a nuestra mesa voces que de otra manera no hubiéramos escuchado. Son esas voces —la de Doña Próspera, la de María Luisa, la de Blanca, la de María Benta, la de Miguel Ángel— las que nos enseñan qué es el Buen Vivir y cómo se defiende la vida.
5. Gracias por confiar en este espacio. Sabemos que no es fácil. Que el tiempo apremia, que la conexión falla, que la vida es pesada. Y, sin embargo, estuvieron ahí. Realizaron las tareas, compartieron sus reflexiones, se abrieron a un diálogo que es, ante todo, un acto de cuidado. Este curso existe porque ustedes lo hacen posible.

Son la prueba viviente de que el Surgimiento de la Vida no es una teoría abstracta. Son la evidencia de que, en medio de la tormenta y el abismo, hay quienes eligen cuidar, recordar, luchar,y transmitir. No están solos. Somos un tapiz. Y cada hilo que aportan —con su trabajo, su memoria, su «ira digna» y su esperanza obstinada— fortalece el tejido.
Gracias, gracias, gracias.
