Join health workers, activists, and organisations worldwide to demand the suspension of the Israeli Medical Association from the World Medical Association. The Israeli Medical Association (IMA) has remained silent as Palestinian health workers were targeted amid the genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, endorsing Israel's policies. Taking action against the IMA is necessary to stand with Palestinian health workers, and demand accountability.
Why this campaign?
Palestinian health workers are systematically targeted by the Israeli occupier. This is not incidental, it is part of the destruction of the Palestinian health system. It was and still is a crucial part of the genocide in Gaza, and the ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. The global medical community cannot remain silent.
The facts
• 1,722 Palestinian healthcare workers killed since October 2023, an average of 2–3 every day
• 185 health workers detained by Israeli authorities, many without charge, with reports of torture and deaths in custody
• 250+ cases of unlawful detention, including senior physicians, with some detainees reported missing or having died in custody
• Hospitals, ambulances, and clinics repeatedly attacked or destroyed, crippling the health system
These Israeli attacks have been described by UN experts as “medicide” and “de-healthification”: the deliberate dismantling and weaponisation of healthcare.
While Palestinian health workers are killed, detained, tortured, and forced to operate under siege, the Israeli Medical Association, and much of the Israeli medical community, has remained silent, failing to condemn attacks on healthcare or hold its members accountable for violations of medical ethics. This silence, in the face of systematic destruction and dehumanisation, destroys the integrity of the medical profession and enables further attacks on health workers.
Campaign goals and our demands
We call on the global medical community to act:
• Suspend the IMA from the World Medical Association (WMA)
• Hold the IMA accountable for its silence and complicity in violations of medical ethics and attacks on healthcare
• Demand action from WMA member associations to formally raise, support, and vote for disciplinary measures
• Ensure recognition and inclusion of Palestinian medical representation within the WMA
