Rebuilding the health sector in Gaza: Follow the progress of the construction and equipping of the AWDA field hospital
After the Israeli invasions in the North (Jabalya) and afterwards in the South (Rafah), the center of Gaza has been flooded with displaced people. Before the war the population in mid-Gaza was estimated at 320,000, today around 940,000 people are seeking shelter in the center of Gaza. This led to a situation in which the AWDA hospital in Al Nuseirat, the center of Gaza, is working at 400% of its capacities. In response to this, the dedicated staff of AWDA decided to build a field hospital that should be able to alleviate the pressure, able to deliver health services to an estimated 15,000 patients per month. The field hospital will cover an area of 1,320 m2 and will include an emergency department with a capacity of 23 beds, an outpatient department to expand the obstetrics and gynecology services, and an inpatient department increasing the capacity to 110 beds.
The field hospital is currently being built. The construction will take 6 months, from the 15th of July, 2024 ´till January 15, 2025. The total cost of the hospital is estimated at 1,5 million USD, including construction work, equipment and medical supplies. A significant part of that sum still needs to be raised, and that's why we need your help!
