No to war: People's Health Dispatch
This fortnight at the People's Health Dispatch
As the United States and Israel launched new illegal attacks on Iran at the end of February, healthcare in West Asia remains a key concern for global health movements. Many of these movements have already condemned the assault on Iran, emphasizing the risks posed by potential destruction of nuclear facilities. They have also drawn parallels between the destruction of medical centers in Iran and the targeting of Gaza's health system throughout the genocide.
West Asia and the adjacent Mediterranean will also serve as the headquarters for the new coordinator of the People's Health Movement, pharmacist Aziz Rhali. In an interview with PHM Global and People's Health Dispatch, Rhali outlines his vision for the coming period, the pressing issues that lie ahead, and the significance Palestinian liberation holds for PHM. The interview is available in English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.
In this issue, we bring a second tribute to one of the co-founders of PHM, David Legge, who dedicated decades to strengthening the understanding of the political economy of health and introducing new generations of health activists to the movement.
Some of those activists were participants in the WHO Watch program – who now reflect on the potential breakthroughs represented by WHO's Economics of Health for All agenda.
