Applications open: International people's Health University course for East & South African region

The East and South Africa (ESA) region of PHM invites activists from the East and South Africa region to apply for a face-to-face International People's Health University (IPHU) course on “Health Systems Strengthening in the midst of Climate Change and Health Emergencies”. The course will be held from 15th - 18th December 2025 in Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES), Lilongwe, Malawi. The IPHU will be followed by a one-day regional meeting in hybrid format that will include PHM 25th Anniversary Celebrations and a Global Health Watch 7 launch.  

This IPHU aims to bring together 50 youth health and climate change activists in Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) to explore how climate change, health emergencies, and financing are affecting health systems in ESA and what needs to be done to remedy the situation.

The East and South Africa region faces challenges of Widening Funding Gap, Dominance of Debt-Based Finance, Uneven Distribution, Limited Access to Multilateral Funds, Neo-colonial Economic Structures, Changing Funding Context, Sidelining of Health and Policy Disconnect, among others. The IPHU intends to come up with a regional climate and health emergencies action plan and develop a coordinated structure for effective coordination for Eastern and Southern Africa advocacy response to ensure Health for All Now!
