Chile: ALAMES and MSP Latin America issue statement on the Declaration on Primary Health Care
The Latin American Association of Social Medicine and Collective Health (ALAMES-Chile), the Latin American Circle of the PHM Southern Subregion - Julio Monsalvo, and the People's Health Movement (PHM), in their statement of October 9, 2025, announced their rejection of the “National Consensus Declaration on Primary Health Care in Chile,” on the grounds that it lacks transformative proposals and acts as political legitimization of a weak government agenda. Primary care has historically been conceived as a public and community strategy, guaranteeing universality and equity. However, this document opens the door to the structural integration of the private sector under the arguments of “efficiency and sustainability,” which implies commodifying the gateway to the system, transferring state resources to private business, fragmenting care, and weakening public stewardship in health.
