The first East and Southern Africa Regional People’s Health University (ESA-RPHU) course jointly convened by Regional Network for Equity in Health in East and  Southern Africa (EQUINET) and  People's Health Movement- East and Southern Africa (PHM-ESA)  is being held virtually to build and share evidence, experience, analysis and knowledge on health equity to support regional co-operation and joint engagement, from local to global level, on shared priorities.

THE COURSE 

The course will have a 10 WEEK INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME in English covering key issues and actions to advance health equity in the ESA region. It will include the political economy and social determinants of health and wellbeing, the organization of comprehensive public health, primary health care and health systems, commodification of health and equity in health technology, and the social power, rights and laws, organisation and activism that drive health equity. The course will integrate learning from COVID-19. The course will take place in closed sessions for 30-40 course participants, with open access online dissemination of plenary presentations and RESOURCES.  We will  provide time between sessions for engagement and feedback from participant organisations on the issues raised, including on the follow up with EQUINET and PHM.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 

We invite applications by those based/working in the East and Southern African region (Angola, Botswana, DRC, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia) in state, non-state, community-based institutions involved in health-related work, from health and other sectors  and disciplines to apply! Applicants should be activist and working in or with organisations or networks that engage with grassroots communities and at district, national and /or international level and to have support from their organisations for their participation. Basic proficiency in English and an ability to connect online regularly using zoom with a smartphone/ipad/laptop/desktop is essential. We will give particular consideration to applicants under 35 years and with disabilities.
