East Asia and Pacific region invites applications for IPHU course on "The Political Economy of Colonialism and Health"

The East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region of the People’s Health Movement has been working with the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress to organise an International People’s Health University (IPHU) course on "The Political Economy of Colonialism and Health". The IPHU will be held from 5th -11th, October '25 in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in Northern Territory, Australia. It will be followed by a one day EAP regional meeting (hybrid) on 12th October '25 (Sunday). 

The IPHU aims to look at the political roots of ill health in Australia and the political underpinnings of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health movement.  If you are a health activist from the region, please apply for the IPHU course through the link below. The objectives of the course are shared in the google form below, we will upload a draft curriculum soon.

Please note that the EAP region includes countries from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, China, Korea, Japan, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia.  The East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region of PHM is different from the South Asia region of PHM. The East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region of PHM does not include Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan.

Clarification: Originally the region was to hold the IPHU as well as a 3 day Regional Health Assembly. The Regional Assembly will now be replaced by a one day PHM Regional Meeting on Sunday, 12th October '25 (which will be accessible by zoom).
